The Most Dangerous Game

The only time I had heard mention of this movie was when it was referenced in the plot of David Fincher's brilliant Zodiac(2007)which I have blabbed about a few times before on the blog.

"I like killing people because it is so much fun. It is more fun than killing wild game in the forest because man is the most dangerous animal of all."
Quote from a decoded message sent by the Zodiac killer

This is one of the cryptograms that Zodiac included in his letters to the press which many believe is a direct reference to "The Most Dangerous Game," a short story (and 1932 film) about a mad Count who grows tired of hunting animals and begins to stalk human prey.

I was reminded of this movie by Igloo's latest post which you can view here (well worth the read) and saves me the trouble of reviewing it.

It stars Joel McCrea(Foreign Correspondent) Fay Wray and Robert Armstrong. It was made by a team including Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Cooper, the co-directors of King Kong (1933).

One've my faves. I have a radio play of it w/Orson Welles voicing the mad general.

Interesting tidbit: it was shot at THE SAME TIME as King Kong. You can see some of the sets reused, including the fallen tree.
