You probably have already heard about those Westboro idiots making their appearance at comic con this year and the absolute brilliant way that the SDCC nerd congregation dealt with them...
Makes you proud, it really does...
...
So yeah here's a pic of the one and only John Constantine - slightly influenced by the event in question.
I had a great time at the con and hooked up with a lot of good people. I'll fill you in later...
Off to the madness that is the San Diego Comic Con tomorrow.
Planning to meet up with some old friends and hopefully say hello to some of my fellow bloggers/artists --if they actually get to make it down. There is the profile pic to the right if you want to know what I look like, but below is a much closer representation:
This is one of my sons first doodles on the Cintiq a few years back...and yes, I actually do have a scrawling speech bubble aura floating around my head!
I thought it may be an idea to actually put the gang together.
I had to play around a little bit with the single character images (adding in Pa's body for example)... but it all seems to have tied together reasonably well.
This was originally just a warm up doodle, but I liked where it was going-- so I decided to finish it up.
Link's got a bit of Tom of Finland about him here, don't you think? "C'mon, if you think your hard enough!!" takes on a bit of different meaning under that context doesn't it!?
I just made myself gag...
...and on that happy note, the Angel gang is now complete!
There was a time (ca., 1978-1986) it was pretty much the only comic I read! Every other comic seemed quite incidental and never quite hit the same mark for me...
When I was back home at Christmas I dug out some of my old drawings to show my son and most of them (not surprisingly) were 2000AD related, with Star Wars coming a close second.
I really owe it a great debt, because it introduced me to so many great artists and really helped kick-start my lifelong love of comics. It's influence on my own work is just enormous!
Anyway, I think the last time I drew this guy was back in 84...
